My 7th post - scroll back if you want to read from the beginning!!!!
The past week has 'flown by'. We've had several guests staying with us. Niall came over from Bangor so at his suggestion our local Indian restaurant beckoned us there as early as Tuesday evening. It was only my 2nd Indian meal in over a year consequently I ate everything -and over ordered. I had Chicken Biryany, Sagg Aloo and Keema Naan it was far too much. I walked home feeling overful. Christine who is also currently staying with us has baked something nearly every day for the past week so I've been more indulgent than I would ordinarily be (Cheese scones, Cheese straws,Brownies,Fudge,Lemon curd tarts).
On Wednesday I had two trips to the airport. The first to collect Elise who flew in from Southampton. She's here for a summer break (she's a primary teacher) then in the early evening my (the) new Husband (TNH) arrived home from his week working away so we had a real house full (7 of us including our long-term lodger). It was Niall's last night so I decided to cook for everyone and made two huge cheesey Lasagnes with garlic bread and mixed salad. Afterwards we ate the chocolate brownies Christine made, with Phish food icecream and strawberries. After an evening walk with the dog we visited my neighbour whose two grown-up boys were back on the evening ferry from Liverpool at the end of their round the world trip. They were shocked at my transformation since they last saw me. Al said "you look like a different person" They arrived late and were ready for some supper so I returned to deliver the spare lasange next door which saved me from eating further calories - if it's not in my fridge then I can't eat it. At least Elise and I got to the gym on Wednesday afternoon. I hadn't been at all for exactly 2 weeks so I started back very gently and just did 45 mins in the Gym and 45 mins in the pool with the reward of the Hydro (bubble jets) pool and a Sauna after swimming. All the regulars I see on Wednesdays asked how the wedding went- I promised to take pictures in when I've got some.
Thursday. My neighbour returned the lasange favour by turning up with a slab of homemade victoria sponge cake- it was delicious but I shouldn't have eaten any.
Friday we went to Douglas. I usually weigh myself once a week in Boots but I couldn't bring myself to this week because I know I haven't lost an ounce. My theory is if I've gained I don't want to know, it's demoralising, so I'll wait to weigh myself next week. I did go into Boots though. I bought the £2.99 meal deal for my lunch- I chose a chicken flatbread, fruit and yoghurt honey dip and a bottle of water. Then I went into M&S for the £10 meal for 2 deal for tonight's dinner. We got Tuna steaks, a mixed salad and a fruit salad for dessert plus a bottle of wine which I won't drink but the new husband (TNH) will!
Saturday we all watched the national tin bath championships at Castletown. Martin Clunes did some of the commentating. Individuals had to paddle in tin baths up the middle harbour and back. There were also rubber ring backward snake team entries, zipwire challenge across the harbour and man powered flying attempts off the 'pier' (men dressed in tights riding bikes etc). The day had started in bright sun, Port Erin beach was busy when I took the dog out before breakfast (dogs banned there between 10 and 7 in Summer), various vintage motorcycles were gathered once again on the prom (many over here for the Manx Grand Prix ) then it rained heavily later so the 6 of us (Niall has gone) had a warming home-cooked supper of Sausages, Mash and onion gravy. There's not a hope of losing any weight this week is there?
Sunday.
Today the roads into Castletown were closed again this time for the Vintage Motorcycle gathering. (VMCC) What seemed like hundreds of gleaming well cared for Classic bikes turned up and filled the market square, carparks and roads from the harbour. The Isle of Man really is the dream place for Motorbike enthusiasts. This was proven again on bank holiday Monday when the Classic bike racing started with crowds turning out to watch. It was delayed until 4pm due to 'fog' over the mountain part of the course but once it was underway we were standing in bright sunshine watching at Ballasalla. I'm feeling this 'holiday' attitude must end for me soon. Living on the Isle of Man often feels like a permanent holiday but I don't want my eating habits to be so 'easygoing' as recently. Tomorrow is another day (or should that be week?). I'm stocked up with Slimfast and Hunger shots so l'll see if I can do better. Watch this space.
